National 5 Maths
Functions
Course content
- Use functional notation \(f(x)\)
- Find \(f(x)\) when \(x\) is given
- Find \(x\) when \(f(x)\) is given.
Key ideas
- A function is just a rule to calculate an output when we know the input.
- The input is always in the brackets, eg. \(f(x)\), \(f(a)\), \(f(6)\). The \(x\), \(a\) and \(6\) are the inputs.
