Key ideas
- A function is just a rule to calculate an output value when we know the input value.
- The input is always in the brackets, eg. \(f(x)\), \(f(a)\), \(f(6)\). The \(x\), \(a\) and \(6\) are the inputs.
- In some questions, we are given the input and we work forwards to find the output.
- In other questions, we are given the output and we work backwards to find the input.
