About Maths.scot

Who runs this website?

Maths.scot was developed by Andrew Moulden, a University of Glasgow graduate and 1993 recipient of the Nelson Blackie Award for Mathematics Teaching.

Andrew has taught in Glasgow, Airdrie and Dundee, as well as abroad. He has led a Maths Department and was Head Teacher of a large international school. He now co-owns a successful tutoring centre .

Why create Maths.scot?

There are quite a few good Maths websites already, but Maths.scot aims to be particularly clear and simple, as well as detailed and rigorous.

The solutions to the worked examples within each National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Maths topic include full explanations. When worked through and practised diligently, they should serve as a useful framework for students to prepare for assessments and exams.

You may read more about the reasons for creating Maths.scot in this article  on the dotScot Registry website.

Are you selling anything?

No. All original content on Maths.scot is, and will remain, completely free of charge.

The ongoing provision of free Maths resources is supported by generous donations on BuyMeACoffee.com  and by our various affiliations, including the eBay Partner Network and Amazon Associates Programme, through which commissions are earned on qualifying purchases.

Care has been taken to ensure that all advertising on Maths.scot is as relevant and unobtrusive as possible.

Is your content copyright?

Yes. We retain full legal copyright over all original content on Maths.scot. However, it may be used freely, for any educational purpose, including by private institutions.

SQA material is copyright © Scottish Qualifications Authority and has been reproduced by kind permission of SQA. Worked solutions to SQA questions do not emanate from SQA.

Device compatibility

Maths.scot has been designed to display neatly on most Apple or Android phones, with no horizontal scrolling.

The website works correctly and is perfectly readable on larger screens, although elements of the mobile-optimised design look rather spartan. You may find that a browser zoom of 110% or 125% looks best.

Finally, a plea...

It is our belief that incessant social media notifications are a corrosive influence on young people's ability to concentrate and achieve. So if you are using this or any other website to study, please ensure that you have absolutely no distractions of any kind. If you find that impossible, you probably shouldn't be using technology at all. Switch off, detox your brain and use a good old-fashioned textbook instead.
